This body of work was inspired by my parents’ photography from their many trips to South Africa on photo safari. I grew up seeing the images they would bring back with them and always felt connected to the magical beasts from faraway lands. Hippos somehow always remind me of Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise and the very sage advice that there is nothing to worry about unless you see their ears wiggling and them blowing bubbles. Persephone is clearly harmless.
